I have been using PAF 4.x and generally like it and am currently testing 5.0 [latest with come corrections] DL'd Friday night past. [Also testing some other software]. But let's stick with PAF:
1)I'm having trouble with the sources and editing pages in 5.0. They are too deep for my screen [17" monitor] and it's almost impossible to get to the bottom buttons. I have to gently push the top page bar almost out of sight and reveal just the tops of the bottom buttons. This me or the program? Ver 4.x is no problem.
2) Help for 5.0 says it has NO convert utility to convert/remove `sources' in notes to `sources' as numbered footnotes. It says to first do this in PAF 4. PAF 4 tells me the sources have to be correctly ID'd, eg `!' mark as the first character of the source and with a `;' to mark breaks. Fine. Work intensive but easy to do. Nobody pays me anymore but at my age, time IS of the essence.
Next Help tells me that I can convert only *.dat files and uses as its example `INDIV2.DAT' as a file name. Fine.
I scour my PAF folder and its sub folders and there are NO `*.dat' files & NO `convert.exe'file. Whoa back, dobbin. There's a log jam on the road ahead.
3 Finally, I can find in the Help files of either version, nothing that tells me how I can `renumber/reorder' sources. I'm not about to re-enter 800-900 names rather than use `Import' as in PAF or Gedcom.
Any good lumbermen, log jam movers and Doctors of PAF Genealogy who can help this youngster of 70+?
