Hi Kathy! You don't have to worry about inserting the "//" as PAF 5 does this automatically. The "default" is to have the surname marked thus. However, if you wish, you can choose other options. Just go to TOOLS | PREFERENCES | NAMES . There you will see a box at the top of the screen, labelled MARK SURNAMES. Just select the option which suits your needs. The "//" don't print in reports - they are just a visual indicator of the surname/s. The reason for this choice is to cope with so many families from other cultures with different naming conventions to those western countries are accustomed to.
The ".zip" file is now used to help save disk space on your computer, or on any other medium you choose to back up on, e.g. diskette, zip disk, etc. Because so many people have such large databases this was a necessary move.
