Your problem is most likely in your Windows printer settings. You have to select the "generic text only" printer to get an output that you can understand in Word.
The gobldygook you ar seeing is a file that is ment to be sent to your "default" printer.
All of the control codes and commands that the printer uses to print a document.
From the start menu, select settings then printers, then right click on 'Generic text only" and select "set as default printer" of something like that. If no Generic printer is listed you can select "install new printer" and go from there.
