Ted, I think you need to re-install PAF 5 again. But this time make sure you have everything closed down. That is press CTRL-ALT-DELETE, highlight each program, in turn, shown in the menu EXCEPT: EXPLORER (which is your Windows program) and SYSTRAY and click END TASK. Then back up your data, delete the existing PAF 5, and proceed to do a normal Windows install. That is START|SETTINGS|CONTROL PANEL|ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS and then locate your PAF setup CD.
When it is installed this way, you avoid any conflict with shared files that other programs may be using, and PAF requires.
After you have it running, click on HELP|ABOUT PERSONAL ANCESTRAL FILE and it will indicate in the window that opens just which version you have. As it is a from a CD it may not be as quite up to date as a download install. The current version is 220.127.116.11. However, just be aware that the opening screen just shows v.5. The reason for this is that the graphic did not get altered when the program was updated - the expense was considered not worth it.
