Warren, for some tips on this go to the HELP file in PAF, select INDEX and type in NOTES. Then select GUIDELINES FOR NOTES. You will see there is not a great deal of difference between a NOTE and an EVENT. It will depend on how you personally want to set up your records. I have many, many entries still in NOTES, mainly because that's where they were in the old PAF 2.31 version. I have yet to create EVENTS or edit them as NOTES. Fortunately, they are all in the style recommended by the Silicon Valley PAF Users' Group Guidelines. Incidentally, that's a book you should have in your hands.
