I am looking for a few beta testers for an enhanced version of GedStar Pro that supports PAF 5. "GedStar Pro" is a product that lets you display all of your genealogy data on a handheld PDA that uses the PalmOS operating system. This includes devices that are branded by Palm, PalmOne, Sony, and Handspring and go by names such as "M505", "Tungsten", "Clie", "Zire" and others. GedStar Pro differs from most other PDA programs in being able to extract data directly from your genealogy program's data files; there is no need to "export to a GEDCOM file" or take any other special steps.
GedStar Pro is currently available only for "The Master Genealogist". If you want to take a look at it, you can go to http://www.ghcssoftware.com/gedstarpro.htmhttp://www.ghcssoftware.com/gedstarpro.htm and click on the Details link to see some typical screen shots. This new version will do the same for PAF users, although some of the features that you see for the TMG version will not be available in the PAF version simply because PAF does not support them (such as the Research Log).
I am aware that PAF 5 has a free Palm application that is available for download, mainly because I wrote that application. It was based on an early version of my GedPalm/GedStar program. But GedStar Pro has a lot more features, including support for sources and repositories, custom events, multiple events of the same type, etc.
To apply to be a beta tester, go to http://www.ghcssoftware.com/beta/applybeta.htmhttp://www.ghcssoftware.com/beta/applybeta.htm, fill out the form, and submit it. Not everyone will be accepted, as I am looking for a particular mix of users. But I will try to include as many as practical. I will also post an announcement to the list when the final product is released.
