"PAF does not allow as much "family stories" as I would like to include and make the book more interesting reading."
I have a 1,550 page book generated by using the PAF register or modified register report option. It allows you to select what you include in the report and one thing is to include the notes, whether those at the beginning of the notes file typed free-form and/or those after a ~ (that's a tilde), which is where you'd include your research notes. When I send notes to a fellow researcher, I include both, for the book I omitted the research notes.
As a result, you need to do some formatting in Word's *.rtf (that's Rich Text Format, the only option to export the register file) but that can be read by any word processing program or WordPad.In other words, you cannot use italics, bold, underline and other text formatting in notes - it has to be done in the wordprocessing program.
I have a copy of The Master Genealogist (TMG) and the work of moving data from PAF or any other genealogy database to TMG is bigger than I care to undertake, so reformatting in the wordprocessing program, though not a trivial task, is easier than moving it elsewhere.
I'd be interested if you choose the option suggested what the pros/cons were.
