Open the original file and export ALL as a gedcom file. Then create a new PAF file with a unique name, and import the gedcom file. The new file should be without the pointer problems. If not, find someone with PAF Insight/Family Insight and open a copy of the original file in Insight, and save it from within Insight.
Run Check/Repair on the resulting file.
There is also the possibility that your PAF software has developed a glitch. To check, see whether a copy of your PAF data file exhibits the same symptoms on someone else's computer. (e.g. at a Family History Center) To solve the problem of damaged PAF softwre, uninstall PAF and reinstall it.
