I suspect that the PAF software has been damaged by an electrical glitch. Fortunately you can remove it by using the Windows Control Panel, and then reinstall it. You can find a fresh copy of the PAF setup program at https://www.familysearch.org/ by clicking the Products link in the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
I am guessing that by "charts" you mean "data files" or "databases". To most of us, a "chart" is a graphical printout such as a pedigree chart or descendancy chart created from your data file. If you have created charts such as these in PAF, try opening them in your word processor. But from the context I am guessing that you mean PAF data files (with names that end in .paf) and not charts (with names that end in .rtf).
