I have a small photograph (ambrotype) of a young may wearing a suit jacket with a vest & large bow tie with an ornate copper-colored frame encased in a leather frame. The back says "Perry's Patent Ambrotype and Melainotype Rooms, Cor. Main and Lexinton Streets, Waltham.Particular attention given to copying Daguerreotypes to Ambrotypes.Picture set in Lockets, Pins, Rings & C.Satisfaction Given."
Can anyone educate me about this type of photograph?(My understanding is that this type of photo was taken from 1854-1866, but how?)Can it be restored? Also, is there a way to learn about the photographer from this information?
