My pleasure. My second cousin may be a matrilineal descendant of the Tilley line, but a critical record is missing. An mtDNA mismatch to a known descendant would disprove the theory. A match would merely tell me I might be on the right track, but it would be a critical clue.

Although you might not be a matrilineal descendant of the Tilley line, your mtDNA will provide genetic evidence of your own mother's mother's mother, etc. Think of it: you carry a replica of a piece of your matrilineal ancestors, going back tens of thousands of years, in every cell of your body.
