In Hinshaw's Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy I see this phrase:"taking the Test".In once case the entire phrase was "com 'taking the Test' in 1779 but his ack acc & he retained a mbr".When I fill in the terms from Hinshaw's "abbreviations" I get: 'Complained of 'taking the Test' in 1779 but his acknowledgment accepted and he was retained as a member.' Does anyone know where I would look to find this out? (I have already visited several Quaker glossary sites online.) I have a hunch it might have something to do with 'oaths of allegiance' to the patriot cause in the Revolution. Anyone have an opinions?
