Hubbard House on the Underground Railroad Ashtabula, Ashtabula, Ohio

By Claudia Saunders December 24, 2012 at 10:27:03

William Hubbard husband of Elizabeth Watt was an early land dealer in the Western Reserve. He owned a house on Lake Erie in the town or village of Ashtabula, Ashtabula County, Ohio. It was a station on the Underground Railroad. It is now a park location run by the National Park Service. The Quakers had started buying slaves to give them their freedom. The states in the cotton belt started making that illegal. The Dred Scott decision in 1850, called the worst Supreme Court decision ever was a precursor to the Civil War. Quakers, the Park Service has a large descendant chart of William and Elizabeth (Watt) Hubbbardon the wall in their home.
