Shawn- I have found the same thing too with this famly (and mine for that matter). People related to the ancestor who aRE Native Amer. but not the direct ancestor. I did look on the Dawes rolls for the Rigneys and Huffmans and found none listed as Cherokee, but several listed as Choctaw, for what that's worth. Not sure if it means anything so far as this family goes. I also found a Rigney from WAY back listed as a Pamunkey from VA.
I have an ancestor listed variously as Spanish, Abenaki, and "a half-breed Indian" I've never figured out what her story was either and I have been trying like mad!
