Just a note on an item related to "Rebels in Blue", which is a great read. The setting extends from North Carolina into the Knoxville/Sevierville area of TN too.By coincidence, a "cousin" brought me some of his research on our Jonathan Mize, born 1804 Wilkes Co. NC who had resettled to Sevierville TN by the 1860c.It seems that Jonathan was a strong Union Loyalist and joined a military unit known as the Tennessee National Guard (USV). Jonathan died of wounds received on December 8, 1863 at the hands of troops ofCSA Col. Thomas and a band of Cherokees. The battle in which he was killed was known as the Battle of Gatlinburg - "the last Indian Battle conducted east of the Mississippi River"
