A final reminder that registration closes on Thursday for a reunion of descendants of the 1st Alabama Cavalry, United States Volunteers. The reunion will be held in Blountsville, Ala. on Saturday, May 1. Blountsville is 50 miles northeast of Birmingham, and 50 miles southeast of Huntsville. We have Mapquest directions to the site on our website, where it is essential that you register as descendant. Registration is required for descendants and guests because we want to offer a Saturday night meal with the reenactors who will be participating in a 2 p.m. battle that day. Also, that day, from 11:30 to 1 p.m., we have a historian's panel, in which the unionist movement in Alabama will be a key topic along with Streight's raid. To learn more about our event and register, please go to our website -- www.1stalabamacavalryusv.com We request that descendants bring copies of any and all documents relating to their ancestor and the 1st Alabama. As you can tell from our webpage, we want to pay homage to these brave men by documenting their historical deeds. So any and all copies you can donate, would be most appreciated. When you arrive onsite, you will pay $5 at the gate and be directed to a large tent where descendant's registration will be located. But again, you must pre-register befor Thursday. Thanks and we hope to see you soon.
