NC Union regmts - info per John B. McGowan
Hi All,
I am the host of two web sites dealing with Union regiments formed in Eastern North Carolina: the 1st & 2nd North Carolina Union Volunteers at: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~ncuv/ncuv.htmhttp://homepages.rootsweb.com/~ncuv/ncuv.htmand the
NC / US Colored Troops at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncusct/usct.htmhttp://www.rootsweb.com/~ncusct/usct.htm .
These regiments began as the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd North Carolina Colored Infantries and the 1st North Carolina Heavy Artillery but became the 35th, 36th and 37th U.S. Colored Infantries and the 14th US Colored Heavy Artillery. Our project began with eight volunteers transcribing data from theRegimental Descriptive Books but there are only two of us now, and not much has been done lately due to illness and other family matters. We have completed the NC Union Volunteers but we need help to finish the US Colored Troops.
The reason I am writing is that I have long hoped that someone would do the transcribing for the 2nd & 3rd NC Mounted Infantries formed of men from the mountains of North Carolina and also to add data on those who joined units in other states. If anyone has data on these regiments please let me know.
John McGowan
