North Carolina's Union Regiments
Howdy,
So far, I haven't seen any mention on this list of North Carolina's nine
Union Regiments (4 White, 5 Black).I am part of a small group of
volunteers (now down to two) who have been transcribing the data from
the microfilm of the Regimental Descriptive Books which we purchased
from the National Archives. The four White union regiments from NC were
the 1st & 2nd NC Union Volunteer Infantry, and the Second and Third
North Carolina Mounted Infantry. The five Black union regiments from NC
were the 35th, 36th, 37th & 135th US Colored Infantries and the 14th US
Colored Heavy Artillery.Work has been completed on the 1st & 2nd NC
Union Volunteer's and approximately half done on the US Colored
Regiments. (Volunteer transcribers are greatly needed.)The URL's for
these web sites are:

For an interesting article on the formation of the union regiments in NC
and some insite into the men who served, please see Dr. Donald E.
