I have recently paid to join Genealogy.com.So I am new to the research being offered. But am delighted to find this forum.
I have an A.B. Melson (Absolum) who joined the Union after much protesting from his brothers.(So the family story goes). He married in Blount County, but I am not for sure where he enlisted. He was a prisoner at Andersonville. Except the online records list an Abe or Abraham.
He was also forced to move. and eventually ended up in the land run to Oklahoma. His obit states he lost his hearing in one ear, due to a gun shot. He didn't appy for Pension until his last few years of life, because he had been able to work and support his family. He died in 1903.
I wish to learn more and acquire his pension records.I found this forum very interesting.
