Interesting perspective,James, that history is viewed in terms of black or white--and not the huge portions of gray that lie between. One reason is that it is generally presented that way in history books. And you are undoubtedly right that it is more comfortable to view it that way for partisans of one side or the other. I'm quite sure that most people in the U.S. have no idea that there was Union sentiment in the south.
I do plan to start on a new book very soon, but it won't be about the Civil War."Southerners in Blue" took me eight years, and I'd hate to start climbing a mountain of that size again. Thanks for asking.
