Thanks Peggy for the come back. Ancestry.com is the first place I checked when I found George had received a pension and fought for the Union. BUT just my luck he is not listed. I am still hoping to find this pension from his wife - Elizabeth Lamastus Gibson Lester's Pension Application. I found they both received a pension - from a Newspaper Article found transcribed in a book. To make a long very interesting story short - Elizabeth's second husband Napoleon B. Lester murdered a man in Lebanon, Wilson Co. because of this pension in 1887. (He was hung). It is so easy to find Confederate Pension Numbers, I thought it would be earier to find the Union ones - just not my luck! I will be heading to the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, IN in April and plan to spend lots of time looking at Microfilm - they have the ones from NARA.
Thanks again for checking, I have been looking everywhere for him on Civil War sites. Am really hoping the Library will have what I need to order copies of both pension files. Merlyn
