My gggrandfather's name was Thomas Pearson McCreight, and he served in Josey's 15th Regiment (AR) from Mar. 1861 to 20 Dec. 1861.
There are 2 things I was hoping to find out in particular from his Service Record: First of all, I had assumed that he must have been injured when I saw that he'd only served 9 months. But his pension application says nothing about an injury, just that he was too old to work. At the time of his service, he was 30 years old; did they allow older men, or perhaps, men who volunteered, to serve only a short time? So my first question is why such a short time served?
I'm kind of doubtful that there will be anything in his record that tells me his mother's maiden name, but I'd love to know... I can't find any kind of birth record - he was born in 1831 - and even though I know the exact date of death, (and it's well after the year they began keeping records), they say there is no death record. All that to say that I don't know any other place to find out his mother's maiden name... Anyway, thanks so much again for your offer. Loralee
