Hi James...... We may have exchanged notes before at the Civil War Message Board. I've been a "student " of of the " late un-pleasantness " since I was a kid in the 1950's. 30 or 40 years ago I may have used the term " Civil War Buff. " Buff " doesn't seem like a proper term for a 65-year old with a " pot belly " and " love-handles ! " LOL !!!! I"m a life-long resident of east Tennessee. While most of my Civil War ancestors were Confederate from Tennessee and North Carolina I've several southern Unionists from east Tennessee in my family tree. They served in the 1st & 8th Tennessee Cavalry and 3rd,6th,& 7th Mounted Infantry. Some of my wife's paternal ancestors were Unionists from Kentucky. One died at Andersonville. Two of my east Tennesseans died at Danville,Virginia.
