In looking over the obituary of my great-uncle (through marriage), Edward J. Martin, I found the details of his Spanish-American War Service. He lived and worked in Worcester, Mass. He served as a youth in Cuba with Company C 2d Regiment. After the war, he reenlisted in Company C and was post quartermaster sergeant with that Unit. He wasappointed chief armorer at the Worcester Armory in 1909 and held that position for 35 years. He was a member of the Worcester Light Infantry Veterans' Association, the Massachusetts Armorer's Association, the Col. E.R. Shumway Camp 28, U.S.W.V., and the Military Order of Snails. I can't find any references on the internet to Military Snails. The name seems unflattering, and I'm wondering whetherI misread the word. The obit is in bad shape and hard to read. Thanks for any info.
