Success Stories In Helping Others
I can't give enough praise to GenForum for the good luck I have had myself in the past year and a half in doing genealogy research, and much of it through these forums. But my real success stories are those in helping two perfect strangers recently in finding their relatives.
1.A woman on the West Coast, who had found my name on a GenForum message board, was looking for a first cousin whom she had not been in contact with since 1946, when they had seen each other as children in Nebraska. She gave me her name and the name of the woman's husband. It took me quite a few days, but I found her cousin living in Colorado, age 83.I gave her her address and phone number, and she was so excited when she got in touch with her.Couldn't thank me enough.
2.A woman from Florida saw my name on a GenForum message board and asked me to help find out what had happened to her grandfather's family. She told me that he, his wife and daughter had been murdered in Ohio in 1946 and told me the circumstances. After many hours of research, I found them for her; and the bonus was that they were in one of my lines of ancestors!
In both of these circumstances, I can't express the wonderful feelings that I had helping perfect strangers find their relatives.I get excited when I find my own, but that doesn't compare to finding theirs!
