Sadly much of the information and trees have no source or contact person. It should only be used as a clue to further research.
I have learned that I don't believe anything without examining the primary source document. I realize many people do not feel that way.
I guess I feel strongly because of the years I volunteered verifying papers for hereditary societies and working on 'problem lines.' "Moan and lament?" Try telling a member their line is closed. Yes, I stopped 'helping' because I realized I was not helping.
I also taught college programming courses for decades.The code has to compile and produce the correct result. There is no in between.
I was also kept on the 'straight and narrow' by excellent professional and amateur genealogists.
I am certain if I started researching after 2000 I would be making all kinds of mistakes. It is just so easy to make mistakes without experience. It is better to be a poor family researcher than a poor brain surgeon.
