Betty, thank you for your response.I am a software programmer by trade and so am comfortable with folders & subfolders.

I guess what I was really asking is how one might record captions or all the information you might know about a particular photo -- do you use the caption as part of the file name or use software such as ACDSee to manage captions?

For example I have a photo currently named:
Wilson May with Carls baby son Bryan 193408.jpg

Well in fact May Wilson's name is not that at all, she was born Mary Wendt and married Fred Wilson.She is the mother of Carl, Grandmother to the baby she is holding.

I guess what I'm trying to avoid is having to have a single hard copy of the photo in hand in order to know all there is about the photo.
