You should probably download the update, but not sure you can do that from version 2.9. You can check your options at http://www.rootsusers.org/UFTFiles/http://www.rootsusers.org/UFTFiles/
Otherwise, I would make sure to run the FIXME.bat (make sure you have your program closed. Then from your windows explorer, locate C:/UFT ... and double click on fixme.bat).
Then open UFT and see if it has changed. If not, then go to Projects/Utilities/ and run the check/repair options.

As far as being able to go to another program, most UFT users have been migrating to The Master Genealogist. It takes in UFT data without need of Gedcom. You can find out further about that at www.whollygenes.com
