Henry- The Page numbering may be "as designed", and you may have to play with that in UFT to get the desired result.
To turn off the visible non-printing text and codes in Word 2000, it may be necessary to go into Tools>Options>Non-printing characters> and check/uncheck some boxes, such as "Hidden text". Take a look at Format>Font>Hidden also.
As to the Headers and Footers not showing, consult Word 2000 help, as they seem to be there for printing.
As a last resort, consider renaming the Word Normal.dot template to Normal.old to cause Word to create a fresh template on the next bootup. There is no practical way to edit a template that has been modified over time. Good luck, John
