Roy- Back to your original problem. Yes, keeping the font count below 250 will probably let you print most reports directly from UFT to your printer with no erroneous characters from an incorrect "font" showing.
This method will probably give you the prettiest output, however you will be unable to do any editing of the output...
"Other" Options with the UFT Genealogy Program, report printing wise, on XP:
1)Set path to Wordpad in UFT "Other" on Text Editor menuin UFT Print Setup. This will automatically open RTF files in Wordpad on XP. No headers, no footers, no footnotes, and not necessarily pretty, but you should get the right characters. Not sure if you can still get pictures on WinPad XP SP2 or not.
2)Buy MSWord and "Print to File" in RTF format. Currently MSWord 2002 is very favorably priced in a Works 2005 package. Winword.exe may not open automatically. Minor problem.
3)Download the "free" OpenOffice.org suite. You probably will have footnote font attribute problems after the first save in the current version of OOo, though. But I recommend the program just for kicks. OOo will not open automatically. Minor problem. Regards, John
