The workaround for this is to add a "child" for the couple and name the child "no children" and do not add any further information. The couple will then be shown in the next generation and it will list "no children."
There are a few quirks with this way, though, too, depending upon how you might or might not have your templates set. It might print out ...let's say, "John and suzie had the following child: no children"
It's more work, but if you definitely want the couple to show up in the next generation, that's how to do it. Your other options are to not run a descendant format in the family journal, but to run a family format. This may not be what you're wanting either, though. You have to sort of play around with it to get it set up as you like.
