I think it all depends upon the GEDCOM tags, Ron. I know it also depends upon your choices when creating the GEDCOM files and again when you convert the GEDCOM files into your other program. For instance, I know that in PAF (and perhaps in other programs) that the program doesn't distinguish between family records and marriage records. A FAM tag is used, thus creating a marriage record for all couples with a FAM tag. Or at least that's how I understand it (I've never used PAF). With Family Tree Maker, I understand the GEDCOM works much better importing it FROM FTM to UFT than exporting it from UFT to FTM. Version to version of both programs also work differently. Another hint ... if you use the "Family 5.3+" option, you must make sure that the program you are exporting the gedcom TO supports GEDCOM 5.3.
