I am a serious genealogist and have 25 years of research on my Roots IV program.I have published one book and am getting ready to publish two more.I am now going to try to upgrade to UFT 3.0.It is no longer available in any store in my area. They say they are sold out. They have FTM. I called Mattel, and they could not assure me that they will continue to make UFT. I looked at every program on the market. I hate FTM and their marketing practics, and I will not switch to FTM. Its format is terrible.Either it is a lousy product or its owners do not know how to use it. Everytime a FTM user sends me infomation it is not clear because of the FTM format.Sometimes it is impossible to tell a step-parent from a biological parent. They have asked everyone to submit disks with their family infomation. Then they rent or sell it to consumers for $20 to $40. They have also cut up the infomation, so that a person is obligated to rent or buy many disks. There is also no proof for the information given. They are making a profit on someone else's research. They "knock" books saying they are
too expensive. My books are well researched and offer proof and you need only buy one to get the entire information. Also I donate copies to many libraries. I was shocked to see my comments on Genforum indexed and offered for sell by FTM.They copyright everything and say you cannot use any infomation on their homepages.Yet they have a section on how to copy genealogical books and ignore the author's copyright.Someone copied my 770 page book and submitted it on disk.FTM is making money from it.I would have printed the section free for the person.I have been writing letters and complaining about FTM tactics for a year.No one has paid attention. Maybe now they will. They are creating a monopoly and making money on other people's ressearch.I am sure they will buy out other companies as well. Is there a law to fight this?Don't be surprised if all of a sudden this forum is inaccessible.I have tried to contact Paul Burchfield several times by email, fax, and phone.I cannot get him to help with my problem. There is no support. UFT useres had better unite now. We need a forum not under the control of FTM.I hope this makes it to the forum. C. McCloskey
