There is a person using Ultimate Family Tree that is planning to join our RUG of Portland OR. This person really wants to buy Ultimate Family Tree 3.0. She can't find a store or a place online to purchase this.
Paul, please go to http://www.uftree.comhttp://www.uftree.com. Look at the right hand column, below the heading 'Ultimate Family Tree Software'. Slide down to 'Order Now!'
A telephone number is given for ordering our program, 1-800-397-4243. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, no less! Wow!
Paul, please call that phone number. You will hear music interrupted by a sweet voice telling about Mattel, Parson's, and other company names and products. Her words are a bit garbled after she mentions the option of going online to order at 'www 'www.mattel.com' . . .
During the next twelve minutes I heard that message several times. Then I hung up.
I went online to that URL but there was no Ultimate Family Tree anywhere that I could find. There a search box to use to find any of the products there.
Paul, please go to that website and enter 'Ultimate Family Tree' into that box. I believe you will find that "There are no products found for this listing."
I dug into a pile of the 'Ultimate Family Tree Magazine". I found the most recent issue of that 'magazine'. Aha! on the inside back cover is given the number for ordering by phone. 1-800-548-1806. That is different than the above phone number! I admit, the sentence did not say I could order Ultimate Family Tree from that number. However, that number is also listed on the advertisement for Ultimate Family Tree 3.0 on the inside front cover of that 'magazine'.
Alas. The same sweet recorded voice recited the identical message but this time the garbled section was less garbled. So help me, she said, after speaking the URL words, she spelled out the URL as "www.mattel.aol.
And, of course, after waiting and listening to her message for another seven minutes, I hung up.
Is it that, Paul Burchfield, Melissa, and Blue are the only people in the company that know the product 'Ultimate Family Tree' exists? I don't think we have a marketing problem. I think the problem is bigger than that. I wonder if someone (or many someones) is/are incredibly stupid or horrifically malevolent.
