DIRECT PRINTING Although UFT does an acceptable job of sending its reports directly to a printer, it also has provisions for exporting most of these same reports to External Text Editor Programs in Rich Text Format (RTF).
Some highly structured programs, such as Box Charts and the most detailed version of the Indented Descendant Report CANNOT be exported in RTF format.
TEXT EDITORS Text Editor Programs which can import these RTF formatted files from UFT include "The Ultimate Family Tree (standalone) Editor", various versions of Microsoft "Word" and most versions of "Wordperfect" (not WP-8).
USING WORDPAD Wordpad can also be used, but it strips off Headers, Footers, Footnotes and Endnotes. Wordpad may also introduce printer problems for the final user??. May not??.
HOWEVER, and this is a big however, Copy and Paste can be used to transfer Reports with Endnotes and Index intact from the standalone UFT Editor into Wordpad for e-mailing purposes to recipients with no other Text Editor.
If Copy and Paste is used from the UFT Editor to Wordpad, page numbers should be manually duplicated in the text area of the UFT Editor before copying, as the originals in the Headers and Footers will be stripped off by Wordpad.
PRINT TO FILE The UFT 2.x and 3.0 versions have evolved to the point that "Print to File" is user friendly with only one modern Text Editor Program. Guess which one. Yep. Microsoft Word.
Users of Wordperfect 9 and others must use trickery, witchcraft and/or reverse engineering to get a suitable export. This was reported in June, 1999, but the shipping trucks were already rolling with UFT 3.0.
TECH SUPPORT and KNOWLEDGE BASE Barring an updated program, is it possible to post an official version of the witchcraft needed to export the best variation of each RTF Report for each Text Editor in the Knowledge Base? By this I mean, suggestions for tricking UFT into thinking that the user owns Winword.exe when he/she does not.
