Dick- It may be that a smaller update that modifies rather than replaces an EXE file is more economical to download. But what about re-installation of a corrupted program a few years down the road? On my computer reinstallation of basic UFT 3.0 over the patch seemed to work O.K. But what happens if the patch is no longer available.
I have a couple of copies of Family Treemaker 5.0 for which the 5.0b patch is mandatory to prevent data corruption. As near as I can tell this patch is no longer offered for download on Genealogy.com and it is not even mentioned in the FTM Tech Support pages for that version. It can be argued that FTM 7.5 is the new patch for 5.0, but at least the data corruption problem should be mentioned.
I have a feeling that a lot of the genealogy software now being sold and used will be useless to our heirs in a few short years. -john
