So now to the main question do we switch or not! The announcement this weekend does not mean that suddenly UFT is a bad program! It is still a good program as it was last Friday. And we can use it for the years to come (as long as there are computers with Win95/98 or Win2000) some features are not yet matched by other programs. And lets be serious what is genealogy and UFT it is a simple database and UFT is very transparent it keeps his data in simple DBF files (not its own format) that can be read by Access, FoxPro, etceteras… So maybe somewhere a programmer can write additional utilities that we so badly need and that are not yet in UFT. Gc even does not have to sell source code but just allowing software developers to read the project files so that they can start with the settings of a project (last edited record, active record, grouping list,…). Or maybe some day the owners of Gc see that there is a lot of money involved in the source code and they sell it.
