Here are the ratings with very brief PC Mag comments:
The Editor's Choice is: Sierra's Generations 8.0 Grande Suite, with 5 "stars" - has interactive 3-D family chart and 31 research CDs, superb internet research capabilities - good for beginners.
FTM 7.5 has 4 "stars" - good for beginners, easy to use
TMG 4.0 Gold has 4 "stars" - better for experts wanting more depth and flexibility
UFT 3.0 has 3 "stars" - inexpensive and does the job
PAF 4.0 has 3 "stars" - quite effective and free >>
In reading the article (PC Magazine, 27 June 2000, pages 240-242) and ratings, it looks like the ratings were done by a computer person without in-depth understanding of genealogy. Also, it looks like the rater may not have used the advance mode of UFT, and therefore did not evaluate and recognize UFT's full capabilities and potential.
