Re: Order of events

You would like the events to be placed on the individual record in the order that you entered those events, whether or not all of the events are dated?
Let us assume I have entered a date and place for the events of birth, and death of John Johnson.
But I do not have a date for when he immigrated into the United States but I create the event anyway. Later, I learn the date and place from which he emigrated. I create an event for emigration.
I enter a marriage event when I learn the date and place of that marriage.
Three years later I discover there was an earlier marriage but I don't know when or where the marriage took place.
Without a date, the computer does not know
which event took place first, last, or inbetween other events.
However, you do know that John Johnson emigrated before he immigrated. You also now know that the first undated marriage was before the marriage you had already entered.
Getting kinda complicated?
He must have emigrated before he immigrated. But you entered the immigration before entering the emigration.
The computer cannot tell if he married the first time before or after he emigrated/immigrated.So where should the computer put the first marriage?
That is why good genealogical software allows you, the user, to use a 'sort date' to put the events in the order you want them.
