Go to a bookstore. Buy a book about how to do genealogical research. One such book is 'The Complete Idiot's guide to genealogy.' That one is by Christine Rose and Kay Bermain Ingalls. It is published by Alpha books. There are many other basic books on this subject. They will begin by telling you to begin your research with yourself, your parents, your siblings, your aunts and uncles and their children, then move back one generation at a time.
That may seem boring, writing down what you already know. But that is where we begin. Move one step at a time. Never try to leap back. If you do, you will get lost.
Ask your local librarian where you can find a local genealogy group. That group will probably have beginner classes and be able to help you each time you 'hit a brick wall'.
