UFT to TMG - GenBridge Enhancement Request

By Bryan Cass September 10, 2001 at 10:03:31

I bought TMG last Fall and was going to use it to replace UFT.However, I ran into something during the GenBridge process that I wonder if anyone else has wondered about.UFT uses all "internal" exhibits, meaning that media files are incorporated into the UFT database. The TMG program has the option of making exhibits "external", meaning that the media files remain external to the database and are just "linked" to the appropriate record(s) in the database. This is much more desireable for me, since you can keep your media files separate from the program data files, don't have to back up a huge (25MB+) file to floppies, can enhance or even change a media file without even opening TMG, etc.

But, I have about 20MB of media lodged in my UFT program and in order to get them into TMG in an "external" format, I would have to re-add them all into TMG from scratch.A program that would do this conversion within TMG would surely help.I have submitted the following enhancement request to TMG in Jan 2001.Would anyone else benefit from this?

"Add the ability to automatically change an internal exhibit to an external one. The new function should save the internal exhibit to a file, link the external file to all of the persons and events which the internal one is already linked to, then delete the internal exhibit from the database."
