I am trying to fix a problem for a client who has 2012. I have since installed 2012 myself, and the problem remains.
Scenario ... Doreen married Ross ... their daughter Michelle married Donald. Now for some reason in my client's database she has 2 instances of Michelle (possible data from different sources) which she has asked me to merge (as she was having problems with duplicates). This is only one of many merges that I am doing.
Now Michelle and Donald have 2 children - the same data in each of the instances. Children Heidi and Dion, both children themselves are married with children of their own.
OK ...I go to Edit > Find Duplicate People and choose the one I want to merge. All data "displayed" is accurate, I "go to" the Michelle I want to keep as Person 1 and make sure she is the person displayed.
When I merge the 2 Michelles, both Heidi and Dion now appear twice each.
I am wondering however if it has something to do with the fact that Heidi has 2 spouses.Dion, on the other hand, in the 1st record (before merging) didn't have a spouse, and in the 2nd he did.Is this getting too confusing?
I'm wondering if it has something to do with the multiple spouses of the children ?? I have performed a couple of simple merges that seemed to work fine, then this glitch with the multiple spouses.
