I am hoping that someone will be able to help me track down this General Nesby.
All I know about him is that he was a General in the war with Mexico on the Texas border around 1825.During that time Texas was known as the State of Coahuila. There was no governor but an empresario named Benjamine R. Millam.
General Nesby was a colonist in the town of Mina (later renamed Bastrop). The Civil War started and although the general was 55 years old, he offered his services as an experienced officer to the Confederate Alliance. He was used in a rear position as an advisor but was shot and because of his age, was released from duty. The general never recovered from his wound and died 10 months later.
My connection to General Nesby is this....my GGG-grandfather,Elijah Ford, was the personal servant of General Nesby. After the general passed, Elijah changed the family name from Ford to Nesby. The general acquired the Ford family fromNorth Carolina sometime around the spring of 1843 after a devestating major flood in the area forced a tobacco farmer named GILES (unknown if this is the first or last name, but he was from England) to sell off their slaves.
I am looking for more statistical information about the general. What was his first name?Where was he originally from?
