I wondered if anyone ever contacted you about your Mexican War relative.
My gg uncle, Thomas Jefferson Bridges, served with the Tennessee Volunteers and was also killed at Molino del Rey, Mexico. The War Department Archives lists his death as 14 Feb 1842 (I think 42), but the battle was fought in the fall of 41.My only thought is that perhaps he was wounded and didn't die until a few months later.
I have the info which my cousin found at the National Archives in DC, and it lists his unit, etc., but not much else - is a 3-part report...sort of a tri-fold 8 x 11.
Good Hunting - they were probably in the same regiment. His parents were in Memphis with their ox-driven wagons, making the long trek from GA to central AR with 12 children; only the morning they were supposed to cross on flatboats, there were only 11 children.Thomas had run off in the night, and they later discovered he had joined the TN. Volunteers.
If you want to read a great book about this war, read "Gone for Soldiers."
