Hi Frank,
Here's information on Charles Cartwright from a CD I bought from OhioFamilyRoots through eBay called "Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio in the War of the Rebellion and the War with Mexico Volume 12":

Mustered in June 26, 1846, Cincinnati, Ohio
Mustered out June 11, 1847, New Orleans, Lousiana
Captain Luther Giddings, 23 yrs old
(promoted to Major on Aug 7, 1846)
