My great, great grandfather was Capt. Robert Wm. James, born Wilmington, N.C., 1811, died Biloxi, Miss., 1882, He was the civilian master if the Army transport 'Gen. Hamer' out of New Orleans in the Mexican War. His son, Harrry Copp James, age 16, was a Private in the New Orleans Zouave Fire Brigade Militia, CSA; and later a pilot and harbormaster, Biloxi, Miss., where he died 1923. Seek history of the 'Gen. Hamer'. Jim Miller, Southport, N.C.
