Using Ancestry a James S Horne is listed for several voyages on ships listed as crew member between 1928 and 1955 on some of the databases of ship arrivals of NY, Baltimore, New Orleans, Atlantic Ports. Born between 1892 to 1896, born Scotland, but US Citizen.
I also find a WWI Draft Registration Card filed June 1917 in Hyde Park City MA (Boston City Draft Bard) for a James S Horn age 22, dob. Nov 25 1895 in Pailsey(?) Scotland and a "alien", Occ: is a Marine Engineer. 25 for United Fruit Company in Long???. Married and has children. Is short, medium build, hair dk br. Signature is James Scott Horne.
1920 census living in Boston, Suffolk County MA listed as Son-in-law James Horn, in the James and Emily Rushton household. He is a widower Immigrated 1910 became NA 1916 b. Scotland is a Engineer at sea. His 2 daughters 5 yrs 2 mos and a 3 yr 2 mos also in household.
In the 1940 census living in MA Plymouth County Whitman Twsp as James S. Horne, age 44 b. Scotland, wife (2nd) Alice T and dau 5 yrs and son 3 yrs. Is a Stationary Engineer- Oil tanker. Living at 40 Walnut Street.
Also has WWII Draft Registration Card flied 1942 in Whitman, Plymouth County MA ...James Scott Horne age 51 b. Paisley, Scotland dob Nov 27, 1891 Employer Standard Oil NJ, place New York. Person who will always know address Alice Horne.
The 1920 census you can see for free at familysearch.org and the NARA (and I think Ancestry) for 1940 census for free. I don't know if ships crew/passenger lists on any free sites as well as draft cards.
