Re: New to Forum - Assistance Needed
Ancestry has Dept of Burial Affairs database with this information:
Turney Conway b. 17 Jun 1924 d. 29 Sep 1993 SSN: I won't post as you should have it Branch 1: NAVYEnlistment Date 1: 14 Sep 1942 Release Date 1: 8 Nov 1945 The NARA has a copy of his service record that your mother, as his next of kin, can request: http://www.archives.gov/veterans/http://www.archives.gov/veterans/ He is listed in the CA Death Index which gives his mother's maiden name which might be helpful in Form 180 information. http://vitals.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ca/death/search.cgihttp://vitals.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ca/death/search.cgi Once you get his records you can begin a search of the units and places he was stationed for reunion sites and to request pictures. There could be a basic training group photo out there somewhere in cyber space or locate someone that has one.
