Randall, I served in the infantry in nam in 1965-66. Platoon had the look and feel of nam combat, but the story construction was total BS. There is a film called "Go tell the Spartans." It was Directed by Ted Post, starred Burt Lancaster, Marc Singer, Craig Wasson and Jonathan Lippe. (who was wonderful). It was made about 1972, and captures Vietnam in 1964, before the big buildup. If you can find it, check it out. "The Boys in Co. C" was crap. "Full Metal Jacket" came close, but no cigar. "A Rumor of War", was Philip Caputo's pat on the back to himself. Brian Dennehy (who lied about his Vietnam service) was good as the typical hollywood Sgt. Take the film with a grain of salt. "When we were Soldiers" looked good, but too much Hollywood heroics. I know a bit about hollywood war films, having worked in the film industry for 35 years.
