John Peace was a member of the VA-75 Sunday Punchers. He was the pilot of an A6 Intruder which was lost in '67 under mysterious circumstances. He was one of four lost during the '67 -'68 cruise of the USS Kitty Hawk. Also lost were his B/N Gordorn Perisho and on 3/6/68 Lt.'s Richard Crawford Nelson and Gilbert Louis Mitchell were also lost in an A6. I still wear the bracelet for Lt. Mitchell. Lt. Nelson was the only one of the four to be recovered and his remains rest in Arlington.I had the honor of paying my respects last October.I am attending the renunion of the VA-75 in September of 2004 and LtCmd Darlington will be honored as he was during a memorial at NAS Oceana in October of '03. We are acculating stories of the four heroes lost during that cruise and would love it if you would submit something to add to the memorial.
I requested Lt. Mitchell's casualty file through the National Archives through inter-library loan.It had 500 pages of information. If you want detailed information, I can highly recommend requesting his file.
Since this is a pretty secure site, and if you want to correspond with me directly, we can devise some way of exchanging our e-mail information.
It is wonderful to meet someone who understands the significance of remembering those who have not returned home. There are more of us than you can imagine....
